10TH DAY OF CHRISTMAS WITH #2MINUTEBEACHCLEAN - A GIFT FOR THE SEA
Its been my intention since starting up my business to do good things with my skills, and bits of pro-bono here and there were always on the agenda. Its tricky though when there are so many places to choose from, and knowing how you’re going to be able to make the most impact.
Then I realised the answer was in front of my nose all along. My daily routine included a morning walk along the beach doing my #2minutebeachclean as I went. I’d watched the community grow from day one and done my bit each and every time I got my toes sandy. So at the start of the year, when I still had the time to brush my hair in the mornings, I got in touch with Martin Dorey over at #2minutebeachclean and offered up a bit of my time for the cause.
The cause has grown substantially - just check out their instagram feed and if you want to be even more impressed #2minutebeachclean ! Look how many people have picked up! Its incredible that all this has come from one little idea to just pick up rubbish for two minutes. Two tiny minutes. We’ve all got time for that! We even squeeze it in to our Bay Fitness Bootcamps (which I wrote about here) during each session (running round the beach like made people competing for the most interesting pick ups!)
If you would like to learn more - watch the (almost) 2 minute video about the cause (starring founder Martin Dorey). You'll also see the 2 second animation I completed at the start of the year for this piece.
A gift to the planet
So my gift guide comes in two forms today. If you’d like to get a gift for the planet, the sea life and ourselves - then give two minutes. Get to your nearest beach - or even park - and pick up. Just give two minutes (though you’ll soon see that its strangely addictive, and two minutes is never enough!). Take a picture of your finds and post it to social media with the #2minutebeachclean - and finally recycle the rubbish you find (or pop it in the bin if its you can't).
The second part of the gift guide comes in the form of the #2mbc bags. They’ll help you pick up, give money to a fantastic cause and look pretty snazzy at the same time! Three colours to choose from - or really spoil someone and get all three!
